IWC - Version 1.0 released


This is my first attempt at a small game design project and I chose an rpg wrestling game as my theme as part of my one page rpg jam submission. The first version has been released early on the basis that it would be good to see some independent feedback from people on the game.

In terms of my design goals these were:

  • Fit within the requirements of the 1 page rpg jam criteria (1 page of rules and back page of tables max)
  • Keep the rules simple (1d20+ attribute die opposed roles to see if actions succeed)
  • Make the game fun (encourage players to narrate their actions and outcomes)
  • Implement a 'create a wrestler' and short 'campaign' mode
  • Implement a 'momentum' system which builds up during a match and then depletes to zero leading to one side winning 
  • Implement a reward system to support the advancement rules (crowd 'pop' and 'reputation')
  • Implement a simple risk/reward system with reputation points (do you spend these on increasing your skills or on short term advantages to maintain a win streak?)

The games needs to be play-tested. Whilst the core mechanics are straight forward the primary elements that I feel need to be put through their paces include: 

  • Is the gameplay simple and fun?
  • Are matches even or too one-sided? (back and forth matches would be the desired outcome)
  • Is the momentum limit reasonable (elapsed time before you can start using finishing moves)
  • Is the match limit (i.e. number of moves before the match is called a time-out right?)
